Extreme Beef Bread?

After watching Chef Azme's cooking while we were in KB, so on the 20th of January, the Terunjing Termites took on to themselves on making something different for dinner.

So we tried something different for dinner,

So we got ourselves some red pepper, two packets of black pepper, two packets of smoked pepperoni, a long french bread (im not sure what its called), some black pepper, some eggs and some mixed herbs.

From there the red pepper is to be cut into little slices, while the french bread is needed to be sliced into 30 degrees angle.

While the sausages to be fried and cut into slices and 30 degree angles and also the smoked pepperoni to be microwaved till crispy.

After all are ready, the bread are spread whereby butter is applied onto the surface before putting the pepperoni, the sausages and finally the red pepper and wala u got a terunjing extreme beef bread.

Before serving it up, we microwaved the whole food then there you have it, bon apetite. With that we cooked scrambled eggs with abit of black pepper & mixed herbs.

We'll with a bit of chilli sauce & mayonaise, the rest as you could say, is history.

History of Chinese New Year,

"The Chinese New Year has a great history. In our past, people lived in an agricultural society and worked all year long. They only took a break after the harvest and before the planting of seeds. This happens to coincide with the beginning of the lunar New Year.

The Chinese New Year is very similar to the Western one, rich in traditions, folklores and rituals. It has been said that it is a combination of the Western Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. This is hardly an exaggeration!

The origin of the Chinese New Year itself is centuries old - in fact, too old to actually be traced. It is popularly recognized as the Spring Festival and celebrations last 15 days.

Preparations tend to begin a month before the date of the Chinese New Year (similar to a Western Christmas). During this time people start buying presents, decoration materials, food and clothing. A huge clean-up gets underway days before the New Year, when Chinese houses are cleaned from top to bottom. This ritual is supposed to sweep away all traces of bad luck. Doors and windowpanes are often given a new coat of paint, usually red, then decorated with paper cuts and couplets with themes such as happiness, wealth and longevity printed on them.

The eve of the New Year is perhaps the most exciting part of the holiday, due to the anticipation. Here, traditions and rituals are very carefully observed in everything from food to clothing. Dinner is usually a feast of seafood and dumplings, signifying different good wishes. Delicacies include prawns, for liveliness and happiness, dried oysters ( ho xi), for all things good, fish dishes or Yau-Yu to bring good luck and prosperity, Fai-chai (Angel Hair), an edible hair-like seaweed to bring prosperity, and dumplings boiled in water (Jiaozi) signifying a long-lasting good wish for a family. It is customary to wear something red as this colour is meant to ward off evil spirits. But black and white are frowned upon, as these are associated with mourning. After dinner, families sit up for the night playing cards, board games or watching television programmes dedicated to the occasion. At midnight, fireworks light up the sky.

On the day itself, an ancient custom called Hong Bao, meaning Red Packet, takes place. This involves married couples giving children and unmarried adults money in red envelopes. Then the family begins to say greetings from door to door, first to their relatives and then to their neighbours. Like the Western saying "let bygones be bygones," at Chinese New Year, grudges are very easily cast aside.

Tributes are made to ancestors by burning incense and the symbolic offering of foods. As firecrackers burst in the air, evil spirits are scared away by the sound of the explosions.

The end of the New Year is marked by the Festival of Lanterns, which is a celebration with singing, dancing and lantern shows.

At the Festival, all traditions are honored. The predominant colors are red and gold. "Good Wish" banners are hung from the ceilings and walls. The "God of Fortune" is there to give Hong Baos. Lion dancers perform on stage continuously. Visitors take home plants and flowers symbolizing good luck. An array of New Years specialty food is available in the Food Market. Visitors purchase new clothing, shoes and pottery at the Market Fair. Bargaining for the best deal is commonplace"

with that i wish to all chinese a hapy & prosperous chinese new year.

Trip down to KB

On the 18th of January 2009, The terunjing termites went down to KB to meet with our Grandparents with ofcourse our parents, Lady Rider & King Joe. Through the winding roads from Bandar to Tutong, we enjoyed the beautiful sky which as we came nearer to Tutong, the sky transitioned from bright blue to a darker as the rain start to fall.

However, while we were on the way to have breakfast in danau, we got stuck in a traffic jam that was just as the road from the highway goes from a dual lane to single lane at 'pasir putih' area.

Where we found out that a truck bringing road tar got itself into a minor accident which caused it's load to fall onto the road, which was locking half of the single lane.

with half the lane blocked, the que on our opposite end whom are trying to get themselves to Bandar, was actually queued upped till the the Sg Liang Bomba Station.

It took us roughly 20 mins in que on our side till it was slowly flowing steadily which then we arrived at K.K. Koya for breakfast.

Oh, how great it was to see them again, after some tome being busy at work, it is always great to make a visit to your elders even not staying long but at least meeting & being with them for a while, especially for our grandparents even at their old age, alhamdulilah they are still active n loving each other. We stayed for a while catching up with them on how things have been going, before setting off to OGDC where there was a carnival set up by TAIB was being orchestrated.

Where a few bikes including a few Harley Davidson bikers represented HOG of Brunei where at the location showing off their prized Harley and getting people more interested into riding.

Lady Rider joined with the H.O.G. riders for a photoshoot whom attended the show while showing off their certification as a group of bikers under H.O.G., while a few who were not there were having lunch. As there were about more than 10 riders coming all over from the bandar area coming down to KB in the heavy rain.

Also there, was Ismakom Company was there, although this will be a free advertisement but I just cant pass the opportunity to show off some gorgeous cars that was on display for sale by Ismakom.

A few cars which are on offer were a red mini cabriolet,

Honda Crossroad

Subaru WRX

From there, we continued our way through the old road going to KB whereby we had the chance to sight see what Brunei Shell Petroleum has done in improving the standards and the education for our Bruneian people in the Kuala Belait Area.

From there we reached KB a.k.a Kuala Belait, where we arrived to our grandparents house which is also next to Mr Arab Family's humble abode.

Where we met up with our own Chef Azme cooking up a storm in the kitchen,

The finishing products...

Joining us were also Senor Pablo & Co. where we enjoyed the food immensely, with compliments to the chef..
